Movie the outsiders to book comparison

Watching the Movie the outsiders was very different than reading the book, but at the same time it was very similar. One example of a similarity is Ponyboy receives a letter from soda pop saying the same thing said in the book. The letter was letting Ponyboy know what was happening back in his neighborhood after johnny stabbed one of the Socs. He was also telling him that he missed him and to come back home. Another reason these are similar is that in both the movie and novel, Johnny suffered a major injury due to the barn fire. He was sent to the hospital and treated but then died shortly after. In addition to these there is a fight between The Greasers and The socs that happens in both. The two rivals go against each other, and in conclusion the Greasers end up winning the fight. Lastly Ponyboy restates a poem called “Nothing Green is Gold “ at the abandoned church Johnny and him are at. This also is said in the book at the same setting.

Although there is many similarities there is many differences too. For example in the book Ponyboy gets brutally jumped by the Socs, and in the movie they said nothing about getting jumped nor anything about someone hurting PonyBoy. Another way these are different is the characters Cherry and Marsha come up in the first scene in the movie at a drive in movie with Dally, Ponyboy, and Johnny. In the novel they don't come up until later in the chapter, they also don't say too much detail about them until later also. Another example is Ponyboy runs out of the house after getting into a bad argument in result Darry slaps him very early in the chapter, while in the chapter this happens later in chapter 4. The movies scenes sequence is very different because everything happens so much faster than in the book where there are extra details and important scenes.

I think the actors didn't do as well as I expected them to do in reenacting the story. It didn't really look real to me how a movie is suppose to look. I think they shouldn't have disinclined so many parts that were in the book. They also rushed into all the scenes, but they got to the main and most important scenes. I also liked the setting of the places, they looked very similar to how I pictured it from the book. They had the same characters, I wasn't confused on any parts and understood the movie. I think overall it was a good movie, except for the skipped parts.
