My special item

My flip grid is going to be about this jewelry hearted shape box that is from things remembered that my mom gave. This is important to me because she printed my name on it with the date she gave it to me. I always put my jewelry in it and its sentimental to me because it's one of the implant kind things my moms gave to me. I also have another one but the first one she got for me was really beautiful and I remember her telling me why she bought it for me I just don't remember that clearly. This was around 5th grade.

Diary Of An Oxygen Thief

This book is called Diary Of An Oxygen Thief, by Anonymous, and this is a memoir. This is an honest, real, impacting, neglecting, and abusive but loving book. The “Anonymous” person who wrote this got hurt emotionally. Since then he's found that to be a motivation to hurt others because he got hurt in the long run. He studied the first women he would take on dates with like books. He did this to really  find how to crack a women and break her heart, so he can repeat this to various others. He talked about his ex's all being the same, and not keeping him entertained, or interested to stop doing what he does. Although one girl made him temporarily change, but he also broke her heart too because he thought he wasn't good enough. Since then he realized that what he did was wrong. He started off by telling each girl he hurt sorry. The problem was he thought he was worthless and thought less of himself. He made this hurting a hobby to keep himself occupied. Did he every really end up changing? I encourage people to read this if you like deep stories. By far this book is one of my few favorites, because honestly I don't really like to read. Who ever published this took a lot to do because it's so honest and upfront about what he did. I really did enjoy this book!

Quarter 1 review

In quarter one in this Ela class specifically I think I did well. I did participate & turn in my work with my best ability and on time. One thing I can work on is being more prepared to class. My favorite thing we did was watch the outsiders movie after reading the book to see the differences in both. I also like that we have a 'parking lot' which is where we write our name down to conference with the teacher about any confusion of questions. I think next quarter I should try and reach 4's, that's my goal. Overall this is my favorite class and I think I did okay for the first quarter.

Movie the outsiders to book comparison

Watching the Movie the outsiders was very different than reading the book, but at the same time it was very similar. One example of a similarity is Ponyboy receives a letter from soda pop saying the same thing said in the book. The letter was letting Ponyboy know what was happening back in his neighborhood after johnny stabbed one of the Socs. He was also telling him that he missed him and to come back home. Another reason these are similar is that in both the movie and novel, Johnny suffered a major injury due to the barn fire. He was sent to the hospital and treated but then died shortly after. In addition to these there is a fight between The Greasers and The socs that happens in both. The two rivals go against each other, and in conclusion the Greasers end up winning the fight. Lastly Ponyboy restates a poem called “Nothing Green is Gold “ at the abandoned church Johnny and him are at. This also is said in the book at the same setting.

Although there is many similarities there is many differences too. For example in the book Ponyboy gets brutally jumped by the Socs, and in the movie they said nothing about getting jumped nor anything about someone hurting PonyBoy. Another way these are different is the characters Cherry and Marsha come up in the first scene in the movie at a drive in movie with Dally, Ponyboy, and Johnny. In the novel they don't come up until later in the chapter, they also don't say too much detail about them until later also. Another example is Ponyboy runs out of the house after getting into a bad argument in result Darry slaps him very early in the chapter, while in the chapter this happens later in chapter 4. The movies scenes sequence is very different because everything happens so much faster than in the book where there are extra details and important scenes.

I think the actors didn't do as well as I expected them to do in reenacting the story. It didn't really look real to me how a movie is suppose to look. I think they shouldn't have disinclined so many parts that were in the book. They also rushed into all the scenes, but they got to the main and most important scenes. I also liked the setting of the places, they looked very similar to how I pictured it from the book. They had the same characters, I wasn't confused on any parts and understood the movie. I think overall it was a good movie, except for the skipped parts.

Making connections

The poem connected to the Outsiders was We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks. This poem is about a group of teenagers in a gang who are risk takers everyday, including their life being At risk. These teens talk about acting like an adult, and being careless about their life because they know that their life can be taken at any moment.

One piece of evidence that connects to The Outsiders is In the second stanza “We strike straight”, is referring to hitting the pool ball hard but there's nothing bad about a game of pool. To me this can also refer and speak towards fighting, hitting someone hard like a pool ball etc. This is apart of their normal lifestyle. This connects to the outsiders because the Greasers  are rivals with the Socs which most of the time leads to violence. For example when the Greasers and Socs had a huge fight against each other and the Greasers ended up winning. Another example is when Ponyboy and Johnny were hurt and approached by the Socs in result to Ponyboy getting drowned in a fountain and Jonny killing the guy who was hurting Ponyboy. This shows that both The Greasers and the gang in the poem have to go through rough times, violence, and more in their everyday lives. My second connection to the outsiders from the poem is In stanza 4 it says “We jazz June” this seems like something is rising to a Climax and it can lead to or follow dangerous actions into death or harm. This is what being in a gang is apart of, taking life risks and careless. Why I think this line in specific has a connection and a common thing is because the Greasers is a gang just like the poem is about a gang. In the outsiders members of the Greasers die, and that comes to show that it does take risk and life changing changes when you are in a gang. All of them getting into fighting, attempting or being attempted in hurting someone or being hurt forever etc.

Both of these different book and poem have that common aspect in not being scared of death, knowing what can happen, or what they go into. The Outsiders and the poem all go through very similar lifestyles and obstacles. They both risk their lives, and are very violent, but will always stay together as a gang because that's who they trust and will always go with. These two sources have strong connections and are very powerful in different perspectives.
